KATHMANDU, JUL 01 - A poor batting performance saw Nepal lose their first T20 International against the Netherlands by 18 runs on Tuesday. With the win, the Dutch team has taken a 1-0 ahead in the four-game bilateral serie
Nepal 's batting woes continued as batsmen failed to deliver while chasing a modest 135 runs for victory at the VRA Cricket Grounds in Amstelveen.
The opening pair of Subash Khakurel and Gyanendra Malla could manage only 12 runs before Khakurel was trapped leg before while on two runs. Malla, promoted to the opening order, scored 24 runs from 22 balls with four boundaries before he fell in the seventh over. Skipper Paras Khadka was the only batsman to show some resistance against the Dutch bowling attack with 45 runs.
Khadka looked composed at the crease during his 42-ball knock but received little support from his partners who kept tumbling cheaply at the other side of the crease. Rajesh Pulami Magar (13), Sharad Bheswakar (10), Pradeep Airee (6) and Karan KC (2) all departed in quick succession scuppering the team's bid to build a noteworthy partnership during the run chase. Nepal fell short by 18 runs finishing their innings on 116 for seven.
Earlier, riding on a Stephan Myburgh's 60-ball 67 runs, the Dutch team posted a total of 134 for five after winning the toss and batting first. Myburgh and Michael Rippon, who scored a run-a-ball 25, were the only highlights in the Dutch batting line-up.
Basanta Regmi claimed two wickets conceding 24 runs from his four overs. Karan KC also had a wicket to his name but was the most expensive bowler giving away 32 runs.
